What do you consider "fashion"

I would love to hear what you all consider fashion.  For me it is everything you can put on/do to your body.  Including hair, jewelry, cloths, painted nails/toes, shoes, body art/tattoos and health and fitness.  Anything that adds to how you look and your appearance.  In a stylists life at some point all of these things will play a role in their career.  Some of you may think "well how can health and fitness fit in".  Well like I would always tell my clients if you don't feel good in an outfit then you won't be perceived as looking good.  You have to have confidence and truly sell yourself in the outfit. If you aren't healthy and don't feel comfortable in your own skin then the cloths don't even matter.  That's where health and fitness come in.  For me I love it all.  I love to have a funky hair cut, painted nails and toes, jewelry, great shoes (usually heels), I have 4 tattoos (the one on my shoulder is my favorite piece of art), and I love to work out and eat right (don't get me wrong though I do splurge sometimes).  For me this is why I love being in the fashion industry.  Nothing is always the same, and something is always changing.

Who am I

So many of you may not know me and lots of you might.  But here is a little bit about me.  I was born and raised in Milford, MI.  I have an older sister Tiffany who is one of my best friends and the best mom anyone could ever ask for.  I was also very close to my father who passed away when I was 18 and I still continue to grow closer to him in my faith.  From the time I was a little girl I remember watching and looking at my mom and loving her jewelry, purses and outfits.  She is an interior designer and has style, so I guess you could say I grew up with it:)  I would lay my outfits out the night before so when I woke up for school I already knew what I was going to wear.  Once high school came I was so obsessed with this that I did it for the whole week, including the jewelry and shoes to go with each outfit.  When I was 15 I got my first job at a clothing store in Milford called The Clothing Cove.  I worked in the stock room steaming, hanging and pricing the cloths (making them floor ready as we would call it).  I have to admit that I hated it.  I wanted to be out with customers helping them look their best, not in the back all by myself.  Shortly after I started there I moved into sales.  I loved it.  Even if there wasn't a customer to help it was so fun looking at all the cloths and jewelry when straightening the store.  And oh boy did this place have jewelry/accessories.  If you couldn't find it their they didn't make it.  Then my mom bought the interior design store she worked at and I went to work for her.  My fashion career didn't end there though.  Through out highschool I always enjoyed being put together and dressing nice.  It was almost like it just came natural and was just part of who I was.  I applied my junior year to a fashion school in Los Angeles, CA called The Fashion Institude of Design and Merchandinsing (FIDM).  Most people know the school now from The Hills.  The application process was intense and the school was not cheap and I was paying for all of it.  I had to do a phone interview, a project, essays....  Once I was accepted my dream started coming into reality.  I saved up and everything I did motivated me to be successful there.  That same year I also started dating my boyfriend at the time Adam (who now I am married to-highschool sweathearts awwwww lol).  Graduation from highschool came and both Adam and I got best dressed.  Felt honored to get that and be remembered as that.  I went off to LA and loved the school.  I thought at first that I would never come back to MI because all the fashion was in LA or NY or anywhere but MI.  But I missed my family way to much to not come home.  After grieving the loss of my dad while in CA, I realized it wasn't the time for me to be away from all the ones I loved.  Adam had moved to LA after sometime of me being there by myself.  We moved home and I landed a job at Nordstrom.  I always said I didn't want to do retail again.  I really wanted to buy but in MI there just aren't jobs like that (or very little).  I thought if I am going to do retail again Nordstrom is the place to be and is a great stepping stone for my career and resume.  You can't go straight into management at Nordstrom-you have to start in sales.  I interviewed with two different departments and they both offered me the position.  I decided to take the offer to do sales in the mens furnishings area.  I got promoted quickly and went into management in BP shoes.  And continued to get promoted to higher management.  I then decided I wanted a change (corporate politics just weren't for me).  My friend who had been working at The Clothing Cove since I had left kept telling me that the owners always ask about me so I went back to talk to them.  After interviewing they offered me a job as the assistant store manager.  I gladly accepted.  I was also privilaged enough to go on buying trips and help the owner with the buying.  This store is like a mini department store.  It was 2500 square feet with an alteration department, social department, casual clothing department, Brighton accessory department and accessory department.  Again another great career move.  After the store manager left I became the store manager/buyer.  I worked there for four years and because of the retail life was ready for a change.  Adam and I knew we wanted kids sometime in the near future and working retail hours/holidays, etc just wasn't what we wanted.  I got a job with Broner Hat and Gloves selling to retailers.  This was perfect for me  because it is very similar to being a buyer you are just on the other end selling to the buyers.  I loved it.  I got to go to Vegas twice a year for the Magic trade show and many other states for shows and meetings.  I also got to work directly with the buying team on any ideas for new designs for hats or if I needed something specific for a customer.  It was right up my ally.  Then Adam got a wonderful job offer in AL and we moved.  It really was a blessing from God though because now I have the best job ever-stay at home momma.  I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I decided to start a fashion blog to stay connected to the Fashion industry.  Some other things I have done in fashion  are personal shopping, coordinating/orginizing wardrobes, public speaking and sewing.
PS-one of my favorite things I got to do at The Clothing Cove was coordinate and comentate fashion shows.  THANKS FOR FOLLOWING MY BLOG.  See you next time!!!!
